UGC Equity Regulations 2026 notified and stayed by Supreme Court

What Happened?
The 2026 Regulations required higher education institutions to promote equity, prevent discrimination and establish Equal Opportunity Centres. They also created a national monitoring mechanism. On 29 January, the Supreme Court stayed implementation and directed that the 2012 Regulations continue while the legal issues are considered.
